Music Festival Season Has Begun!

Warm weather is upon us which means music festival season has officially begun! This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the FIRST Dreamville Music Festival in Raleigh, NC.  It was the inaugural event for Dorothea Dix Park.  J Cole made the decision to bring this festival to his home state and I must say it was a dope event!

We were fortunate to have a day of pleasant weather to enjoy to the artwork and performances.  The unfortunate part was that it rained ALL DAY the day before so the festival grounds were muddy.  The festival social media page gave all of it’s followers a heads up the day of as to what conditions we should expect so I was prepared!

I had already planned out my outfit the night before due to the rain but seeing the festival post about the muddy conditions solidified my shoe choice.   COMBAT BOOTS! So I could rinse them off and wear them again!

After we made our way to the festival the sun finally came out to show its face which made for a great day!

If you have never been to a music festival then the best tip I would give to a festival newbie:   DRESS COMFORTABLY! This includes clothing and shoes.  If the area generally cools down at night then I suggest you have a jacket handy because festivals can last for hours depending on the artist lineup.  The headliners are the last performances so you want to make sure whatever you have on will be comfortable enough for you to get through to the end.

Last year I attended Broccoli Fest in DC which allowed you to have lawn seats.  I was so ready to carry my portable chair to Dreamville Festival but days before the festival the marketing department sent out the rules and lets just say I was NOT a happy camper! NO CHAIRS ALLOWED. We arrived around 3:30pm and stood until the festival ended at around 11pm. I realized my age the next day when I woke up and my legs ached continuously as if I had done a full leg workout.

Other than the pain of standing for over 8 hours and then having to walk for another 30 minutes before reaching our cars I can definitely say we had a good time.  Next year I’m going to go ahead and budget for VIP tickets.  I don’t want to stand that closely to people next year and I want a better view of the stage.  We had a decent spot on the park grounds this year but I definitely wouldn’t mind being closer!

Here are a few pictures and videos from Dreamville 2019.  J Cole, surprise guest Meek Mill, and Nelly were by far my favorite performances of the day.

Enjoy
